New Blitz and Player of the Season Winners
Blitz
Last Wednesday saw our annual club handicap Swiss blitz competition at Boston Spa where we had a joint record 17 entries (same as last year).
After 8 rounds we had two players tied on 7 points (Richard Hardy & Richard Sanger), so a play off was required to determine the winner - tense stuff with everyone crowding around.
And unfortunately for Mr Sanger, the pressure got to him and the game was soon over with Mr Hardy becoming this years Champion - Well done Richards!
A great performance also from Duncan Stables who came a close 3rd, winning his grading category.
Notable performances also from Mick Carrigan and Joe Cavalier who came top of the lower grading category, each winning a book.
Player of the Season
This years player of the season was also announced. This award goes to the player who has the best win rate in the team events in the Leeds Chess Association events. Anyone who has played 6 or more games is eligible. Titas Lukauskas has won the award in the previous two years, but this year we have a new winner:-
In 3rd place was Paul Brencher with 8/12
2nd place was David Wells with 6.5/9
And this years winner was Dave Morris with 7.5/9.
Congratulations to Dave who takes home the Shield for a year and keeps the trophy.
